In order to find the average homeowners insurance cost for yourself, you first need to take a look at the factors that determine the final premiums.

Where do you live?

It might seem a trivial thing that shouldn’t matter much, but the location of your property will factor greatly the average homeowners insurance cost you’ll pay. If you live in a crime ridden area you will pay more. If you live in a place (such as the Hurricane Alley or the flood plains) you will pay more. The states that tend to have the highest overall homeowner’s insurance rates are Louisiana and Florida due to high crime rates and seasonal hurricanes. It’s unfortunate, but if you live somewhere that has bad odds like that the insurance companies find you a risky customer and will make you pay for it. You’re not alone, though – all the other people in those states will be paying, too.

Home Upgrades

Consider your “upgrades” carefully. You might think that it would be cool to have a hot tub or a swimming pool, but these can actually significantly raise the cost of your homeowner’s insurance due to the flooding. However, if you install practical things like sprinklers, alarm systems (burglary and fire can be installed on the same system), smoke detectors, deadbolts, and window locks you can look at a significantly discounted premiums.

The Age of Your Home

Obviously, the older something (or someone) is, the more risk they potentially pose to insurance companies. Whether you’re looking for auto insurance, life insurance, or in this case, homeowner’s insurance you will pay more for your premiums if you own an older home. You can counteract this a little by upgrading the structure of the house, making sure the walls and floors are up to current code, ensuring the wiring is up to current code, and installing new major appliances such as furnaces and water heaters. Green, efficient options can actually get you discounts on your insurance such as ultra-safe gas furnaces, furnaces that use the heat of the earth, or install a hot water heater that only heats water as you use it.

You can see that there are a number of factors that will determine what your average homeowners insurance cost will be. These factors will also determine whether or not the insurance company imposes limits on rebuild coverage and repair coverage. The more up to date your home is, the less you’ll pay and the more coverage you will be able to get for your house. Take under consideration all of the aforementioned factors and you should be able to get a decently priced policy that will more than adequately cover all your needs.

It is now easy to obtain knowledge on how much is home insurance freely and within a very short time.
