Due to the recent surge in popularity of the nutritious ‘superfood’ acai berry, the acai berry diet has become a new buzzword in health and fitness circles, particularly due to a slew of celebrity endorsements hailing the many benefits of following the diet.

The acai berry diet however is not a specific diet, rather it involves the consumption of acai berries while being on any other weight loss plan that you may be following. The acai berries are often coupled with a colon cleansing agent or certain other nutritional supplements to more effectively bring about loss in weight.

The health and nutritious benefits of acai berries are manifold and hence the introduction of these into any diet brings about an overall improvement to bodily health. The numerous antioxidants, vitamins, nutrients and fatty acids present in the acai berries all work together to decrease appetite, boost metabolism, enhance energy levels and strengthen the body’s immune system.

As with any other diet, there are certain pros and cons in following an Acai berry diet.

The pros are:
• The diet causes a decrease in appetite and boosts the body’s energy levels
• Antioxidants present in the berries prove to be very beneficial and effective for dieters who engage in physical activity as the antioxidants neutralize all the free radicals that come about due to exercising
• Antioxidants also work to lessen the occurrence of cardiovascular disease as well as many types of cancer
• Most of the health claims that have been made for the use and consumption of acai berries are supported by scientific research.

Some of the cons include:

• This diet tends to support the notion of a quick fix method to achieving weight loss
• Following an acai berry diet can prove to be expensive
• Some of the weight loss claims haven’t yet been completely proven
• Many websites sell adulterated or poor quality products and supplements

The acai berry diet can thus prove to be very nutritional and if the right supplements can be procured within a reasonable budget, then it can prove to be an extremely effective diet routine.
