When law enforcement or firefighters need a flashlight for a specific purpose they choose the brand that is known the world over for dependability and service, the Streamlight Stinger. With nine models to choose from the Stinger is a flashlight available for whatever you have in mind. The abilities and features of each model is specifically geared to a certain purpose.
There are Streamlights that were developed to be used by firefighters and rescue personnel under hazardous conditions. These hazardous conditions often involve flammable gases that have leaked into the environment. One spark can easily set them off. Here you want a flashlight that is safety rated to be used under these extreme conditions. Here you want the tough Polystinger. Made of non-conductive chemical and corrosion-resistant nylon polymer. It was developed for industry where hazardous atmospheres are present.
Where the brightest beam of light is needed such as in accident scenes or night time chasing down of criminal. Law enforcement will choose the UltraStinger. It has the brightest beam available giving off an incredible 35,000 candela peak beam intensity. The beam is adjustable and can be focused. It uses a uses a xenon halogen gas filled bulb for this illumination.
Among other things that make the Stingers so popular is their ability to be recharged up to one thousand times. No more batteries to wear out and replace or just go dead from storage shelf life. The flashlight can be recharged from it's standard charging station, a piggyback charger, a fast charger or in your vehicle, the options abound. Other options include red, green. blue and other color filters to be used in low light, covert operations and even in forensic work, green and blue being favorites of the CSI Team. Also included are ring holders and safety wands, the latter useful in diverting traffic from dangerous night time situations.
Providing these lights to countries all over the world, the company also provides the flashlight chargers in a 230VAC and a 12VDC European system.
Further options that are included with the series are push button front mounted switches as well as tail mounted cap end switches. Spare bulb storage in the tail cap on those models that use bulbs. The use of three variable lighting modes - low, medium and high and a strobe setting. Determine what your needs are and select just the right one.
As far as determining whether to use bulbs or leds (light emitting diodes), here's the rundown. Xenon and halogen gas filled bulbs are the best to use. The give high output and a natural appearing white light. Halogen bulbs lasts longer than xenon and the bulbs blacken less as they age. They are great for long distances, easily focused, powerful and provide high performance. They need to be replaced as they wear out and the filament is usually broken upon hard impacts.
Light emitting diodes on the other hand are very durable and long lived as well. They can last as long as 100,000 hours as they are solid state construction. They require less power to run allowing batteries to last longer but their their power output is less than the bulbs.
The Streamlight company has solved that problem with its new C4 LED Technology. It utilizes an engineered reflector with C4 Photonic Crystal technology to triple the brightness of the beam. Now you can have the best of both, the durability of an led and the brightness of an incandescent approaching that of a xenon.
