When the Wiimote launched, it was hailed as the future of console controls and for the most part it has been an excellent device, but it has its limitations. The standard Wiimote is severely limited in its ability to accurately detect and reproduce movements; this is a problem for games that require very precise movements. The Wii MotionPlus is an enhancement to the standard Wiimote and is designed to overcome these limitations. The MotionPlus uses a tuning fork gyroscope to provide much more accurate detection of movement. The standard Wiimote uses a 3-axis accelerometer that can detect acceleration of up to 3g. The tuning fork gyroscope is not only cheaper to produce than a standard gyroscope but it is far more accurate, especially in attitude detection. The MotionPlus clips onto the bottom of the Wiimote where the Nunchuck is usually plugged in. Beneath it there is a port for the Nunchuck to plug in, as is found on the standard Wiimote, making it more comfortable for those with large hands. A Wiimote jacket, a bit longer than the original comes packaged with the MotionPlus since the standard one will not accommodate the new-look controller. In practice, the MotionPlus proves to be an excellent enhancement for the Wiimote that can be felt instantly. Navigating the menu is far less frustrating and playing games is more enjoyable thanks to the enhanced detection of movement. This nifty accessory is compatible with games like Grand Slam Tennis and Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10, providing a much richer gameplay experience. The MotionPlus is basically the controller we were lead to believe the current standard control would be, an accurate controller that helps to provide an immense gameplay experience.
