Did you ever wonder what reseller hosting reallyis? It is basically a form of web hosting in which the owner of theaccount is using his or her bandwidth and hard disk space to host thirdparty websites. Resellers basically purchase the host's services and, though marketing and advertisement, manage to sell them to thirdparties. Some of them might rent a dedicated server from the webhosting company, while others simply receive the right to sell a partof the hosting company's server bandwidth and storage space to theirclients. The best thing about reseller hosting is the fact that thereseller is not responsible for the hardware and software parts. Thisis typically the web hosting company's job. Resellers are usually onlyresponsible for acquiring customers and interacting with them. Theyusually forward any technical issues to the hosting company. Thereare two major types of hosting: Windows and Linux reseller hosting. Both of them are very popular and both have both advantages anddisadvantages. Windows hosting is, however, better than Linux resellerhosting. Before Windows Server 2003 was launched, more people workedwith Linux because it was more stable and more reliable. However, onceWindows Server 2003 was launched, people started to see that Windowsreseller hosting was a better choice. And so they started migrating toWindows. Linux resellers are rapidly loosing popularity and this is thebest time to become a Windows reseller. If you decide to go withWindows and act as a reseller, the profits will be substantial. Why?Because there is less competition. There are not many Windows resellersand certainly not as many as Linux resellers. Less competition meansyou get a larger portion of the market, which, in turn, leads to higherprofits. Although Linux is free and Microsoft Windows is not, this is asmall price to pay. You have a lot more opportunities if you establisha good and attractive Windows reseller hosting company. If you arestill having doubts regarding Windows Server 2003, you should know thatit is at least equal to Linux when it comes to web hosting. Don't fallprey to the misconception that Linux is the greatest server operatingsystem of them all! It was until Microsoft released Windows Server 2003and closed the gap. Lisa served as product manager on one of the leading ASP web hosting company, specializing in offering Windows Reseller support and services.
