Your Windows XP starts up slow ? It is fact that Windows XP becomes slow after you use it over time. It seems your computer will take a century to start up. It is really frustrating to sit in front of your computer and wait a long time until a computer boots up. That is really a pain in the neck. How to make XP boot up faster? There are two issues can cause your computer slow startup. The first cause is that there are too many programs and software run at Windows boot. This is a common cause that makes many computers boot up very slow. If you run too many programs and software at computer boot, Windows will have to spend some time loading the data of all the program and software. The more boot-up items, the slower your Windows boots up. In this case, you need to disable some unnecessary startup items. Click Start menu and Run. Enter “msconfig” and press Enter. In the pop-up window, click startup tab and disable the items that are not necessary run with Windows. Then click OK and restart your computer. But most of the time, the slow boot problem is not cause by the issue above. Up to 80% of the problems are caused by another issue: Registry errors. Registry is the control center of Windows system. It controls all the processes of your system including boot-up, shutdown, restart and so on. And it can greatly influence the speed and performance of your computer. When Windows XP is powered on, it needs to communicate with registry and fetch vital data to execute the start-up process correctly. But when the registry is full of redundant, invalid, incorrect or empty registry entries, your system will not be able to work properly. Your computer would start very slow and the performance could be greatly decreased. To fix the problem and speed up your computer, you need to fix all the errors in your registry.
